Denise Thimes Concert June 22!

The Sunday AFTERNOON Jazz Salon presents the Jazz at the A-Frame Star in a rare L.A. appearance!

With the Marlonius Jazz Orchestra!

The concert will be held on Sunday, June 22, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Pacific at the downtown Los Angeles Athletic Club.

An optional Brunch will be served from 11:00 to 2:00 PM. Brunch reservations are encouraged, by contacting Mario Hernandez at mario.hernandez@laac.net, or 323 360-6898.

Make it a full day of jazz! The Sunday Night Jazz Salon, 6:00 – 8:30, on the same floor of the Athletic Club, will feature Grammy-winning songwriter/pianist/singer John Proulx, with horn legends Rickey Woodard and Nolan Shaheed! No charge for attendance, but limited seating and reservations required. To make reservations, scroll back to the Main Menu, and click the link, “Sunday Night Jazz Salon Reservations”.

The address of the Athletic Club Parking Garage is 646 South Olive Street L.A. 90014. Parking will cost $10, with validation. Valet parking at the parking garage is available for $25.

The Athletic Club has beautiful hotel rooms. Those are available at a discount to those attending the tribute concert, by calling 213 625-2211, and using the password, “Jazz”.

For nearly 20 years, Betty Hoover presented Jazz at the A Frame in her home in the Hollywood Hills. In the process, she created a community of jazz lovers and musicians, who loved the A Frame jazz series, with its informal intimacy, and friendships, and loved and revered their dear friend, Betty.

Betty’s favorite singer, and a frequent A-Frame performer, was singer Denise Thimes.

Currently starring with the Count Basie Orchestra, Denise Thimes has sung all over the world, with artists as diverse as David Sanborn and Wynton Marsalis “Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra”. Denise has sung for the Queen of Thailand, for Queen Elizabeth II, for President George W Bush, and was handpicked by the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, to perform for her 72^nd birthday celebration! As legendary trumpet player, Clark Terry, put it, Denise’s voice “ranks with all of the greats”.”

The Marlonius Jazz Orchestra is a custom, handpicked band of young musicians, who already play with jazz giants. They have performed with music legends, including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Wayne Shorter Michael Bublé and Tony Bennett. They are led by the bass virtuoso, Marlon Martinez, who is the Billy Strayhorn Scholar-In-Residence at the Colburn School. They combine the lush sound of Duke Ellington, with the excitement of cutting edge jazz!

The concert will be presented in the beautiful 3rd floor Centennial Ballroom of the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

Food and beverages will be available, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Reservations are not necessary.
